Sleeping in fairytale surroundings
When you spend the night in a castle you sometimes feel like you are in a fairy tale. At some castles you can look out over the castle garden or moat from your room in the castle tower. With a little imagination, you play the lead role in your own fairy tale. See the castle stays below

Beautiful bedrooms
One of the best reasons to sleep in a real castle is because of the beautifully decorated bedrooms. For example, you can find bedrooms that are completely decorated as they were 250 years ago. Imagine yourself sleeping in a beautiful four-poster bed in a room with old vaults. You really imagine yourself back in time! Don't like old furnishings, though? No worries. You can also find plenty of castles that have been completely modernized with modern furnishings. Especially the contrast between an ancient building with a modern interior gives a wonderful effect. Is sleeping in a castle expensive?
Many people think that staying overnight in a castle is unaffordable and therefore only for rich people. However, this is not so bad. Of course you can find very luxurious palaces where you have to pay more than 1,000 euros per night, but at most castles, châteaux or manors the rates are much lower. For example, sometimes you can sleep in a real castle for as little as 100 to 150 euros per night. That's lower than the average price of a hotel room in Amsterdam.

Castles in the Netherlands and Belgium
Did you know that in the Netherlands and Belgium together there are more than 3,000 castles? Some of these castles are very well known such as Kasteel de Haar in the province of Utrecht and the Muiderslot in North Holland. These castles can be visited during the day but you cannot spend the night there. Besides these well-known castles, there are also many castles that are actually a little undiscovered. Some of these smaller castles or manors have been converted into hotels or B&Bs. In the Netherlands, many of these castle hotels can be found especially in Limburg. Spend the night in a French Chateau
In France, a castle is called a chateau. Scattered all over France, many thousands of these chateaus can be found. Because it is very expensive to maintain such a castle, many of these castles have fallen into disrepair since 1900. Fortunately, nowadays there are people who are buying up the castles and refurbishing them. For example, in the program "Chateau Meiland," television station SBS6 followed the Meiland family who transformed a chateau in France into a successful bed & breakfast. The program prompted many Dutch people to also buy a chateau in France and convert it into a hotel. Take a look at the chateau accommodation below
