Spend the night in a historic building

Historical buildings to stay overnight

In the Netherlands and Belgium you can find many historical buildings that have not been used for a long time for which they were once originally intended. Fortunately for us, these centuries-old buildings have not been demolished, but preserved so that we can still enjoy them today. In recent years, for example, many historical buildings have been transformed into hotels or B&Bs where you can stay overnight. Because of their history, the buildings often have a unique atmosphere that cannot be compared to anything else. Also on Vipio you can find several historical buildings where you can sleep. Below we have made a list for you with some of these special accommodations.

Sleeping in a historical building

1. Castle room where William of Orange slept

Hidden in the enchanting hilly landscape of Limburg is a romantic 11th-century Chateau with its own gardens, surrounded by moats and ancient trees. The castle, steeped in history, welcomed guests such as Pope Leo III, William of Orange and Tsar Peter the Great. Combining comfort, luxury and flair, the Château offers excellent service and extensive facilities. Located near Maastricht, Aachen and Liege, it serves as a perfect starting point to explore the border triangle. Numerous hiking trails lead through Limburg's pristine nature, past vineyards and golf clubs. The tower room, once refuge for William of Orange, is now an atmospheric suite with a large double bed, sitting area, generous walk-in shower and inclusive minibar.

Located on the Dutch-Belgian border, this former monastery is more than 100 years old. The monastery has had various functions over the years. For example, Priests in training were taught in the monastery at the beginning of the last century. In the 1950s the monastery came into the hands of the Trappists and still later it became a rest home for returning nuns.
