This magnificent medieval tower was built in the period 1358 - 1390 when the Zeeland town of Veere was granted city rights. The tower had to protect the port of Veere and was part of the fortifications erected at strategic locations around the town. From the 15th, the tower and the main building were also used as a city inn, making it, according to tradition, the oldest existing inn in the Netherlands.
