Staying overnight in unusual or unique accommodations has been gaining tremendous popularity lately. And the fact that accommodations can never be strange enough is evident from the list of the 10 strangest “sleeping spots” in the Netherlands, which Vipio announced in the press release below. The list consists of a number of objects or buildings that have been converted into unusual places to stay overnight.

According to Mark Borgman, co-founder of Vipio, the number of “unusual” overnight stays in the Netherlands is growing rapidly. “More than ever, people are looking for an experience, and staying in a boring hotel just doesn’t fit the bill anymore. Why would you stay in a regular hotel when you can book an overnight stay you’ll never forget?” According to Borgman, accommodation owners are cleverly capitalizing on this trend. “It’s wonderful to see how imaginative and creative hosts are, transforming all sorts of places into unique spots to stay.”

Vipio features a selection of hundreds of unique overnight stays in the Netherlands and Belgium. The platform was launched in 2020 and got off to a flying start. Borgman believes the popularity of unique accommodations is partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “When people suddenly could no longer travel abroad for (short) holidays, they started looking for fun alternatives within the Netherlands. Unique and special accommodations were booked up very quickly, and hosts rushed to add new unique accommodations at breakneck speed.”
