Spend the night (2p) on a special estate

Staying in this beautiful holiday home on the Hackforts Veenhuis estate in Twello feels like a little adventure. The estate is run with pride and joy by young people with mild intellectual disabilities. These young people, known as the “Heroes of Hackforts,” are not only taking a step toward independence but also aim to contribute to the region through this project.

The young people live in the large country house with support and have, among other things, established a tea house/restaurant and this holiday home on the estate. Our Heroes are more than happy to show you what true hospitality really means. You’ll feel so welcome here that you’ll be sad to go home.

The Accommodation
The holiday home is a comfortable and cozy home surrounded by nature. It’s a charming white house with a covered terrace. Parking is available in front of the house, and you can rent electric bikes when you book. The holiday home can accommodate up to 6 people. Downstairs, you’ll find a spacious living room and an open kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with a coffee machine, electric kettle, combination microwave, toaster, cookware, and even a dishwasher. Downstairs, there’s also a double bedroom (with an en suite bathroom) and a separate restroom. The beds are made up with crisp white hotel-quality linens, and the bathrooms are stocked with soft, clean towels, toiletries, and a hair dryer. The covered outdoor terrace features a lounge set and a spacious garden with a dining table. There is lighting so you can enjoy sitting outside late into the evening.

Breakfast
You can have breakfast at the adjacent restaurant starting at 10 a.m. (not included in the price). It’s also possible to order a breakfast basket at the restaurant the day before; it will be delivered in the evening. You’ll pay 15 euros per person for this at the restaurant.

This is the place to truly get away from it all. And outside? Nothing but silence and birds. Although every now and then a “hero” might walk by. And just around the corner, you’ll naturally hear the call of the village within walking distance—and even Deventer, brimming with culture, festivals, and fun. You decide for yourself whether to listen, because at the Helden van Hackforts, you’ll feel above all else: Nothing is required, everything is allowed.

Surroundings
The area around Twello offers a lovely mix of nature and culture. You can enjoy wonderful walks through estates and green polders, take a bike ride along the IJssel River, or explore the Bussloo recreation area for a day by the water. The historical center of Deventer is also nearby and offers charming streets, cafés, and atmospheric market squares—ideal for a relaxing outing. A little further away is Apeldoorn, where you can visit Paleis Het Loo, stroll through the city park, or take a trip to the Julianatoren children’s amusement park or the Apenheul, the famous monkey park that’s fun for both children and adults.
