About this accommodation
The first news about Garlenda began to spread and be documented around the Early Middle Ages, when it became an integral part of the Marca di Albenga. In 1091 the marquisate, and therefore Garlenda, came under the jurisdiction of the Clavesana family, descendants of Bonifacio del Vasto. The Clavesana family, however, did not manage to fully dominate the marquisate, so much so that in 1127 the Albenganese city and its marquis were established as an autonomous territory. The excellent position in the maritime market and trade, and the constitution within the bishopric, certainly contributed to political independence.
On 13 April 1153 the bishop of Albenga Odoardo, in agreement with the bishop of Genoa Siro, gave Anselmo dei Quaranta (or Quadraginta) - progenitor of the Della Lengueglia family and, it would seem, a relative of the Clavesana marquises themselves - the task of collecting the tithes in various villages - belonging to other lords - between the territories of Albenganese and Imperia: Garlenda, Bossoleto, Tenaigo, Orsorio, Marta, Casanova, Bosco, Maremo, Paravenna, Ligo, Andora, Lingueglietta, Sanremo, Bussana , Taggia, Montalto, Carpasio, Cipressa, Pompeiana and Terzorio. The figure of Anselmo was welcomed positively by the inhabitants of the area, so much so that he quickly became feudal lord of part of this strip of western Liguria; in 1182 the Municipality of Genoa officially invested him as the new lord of the fiefdom of Lingueglietta - Castellaro and Garlenda, having obtained a claimed investiture from Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa in 1162 and subsequently from Frederick II in 1226; the investiture diplomas are considered by historians to be fake, as there are no official documents. On the other hand, excellent diplomatic relations were established with the Republic of Genoa and its municipality, obtaining in exchange for noble loyalty greater territories in the Lerrone valley and the village of Andora. Please note that the pool is open from the 20th of May 2024 to the 20th of September 2024 A damage deposit of 1500EUR has to be paid locally for groups under 21.
