At the Visitor Center, you’ll learn exactly how this bizarre situation came about historically. Nature lovers head to the Merkske Valley or the Baarle forests. This meandering stream valley on the border offers beautiful hiking and biking trails. On the Belgian side, you’ll also find the historical Merksplas Colony, an impressive nature and heritage area where you can enjoy some fresh air. From Baarle-Nassau, it’s about a 25- to 30-kilometer drive to Efteling. Some great towns in the area include Turnhout (15 km), Breda (17 km), Tilburg (17 km), and Antwerp (43 km).
